The Bridgeport Caribe Youth Leaders mission is: To provide youth with sports, educational and civic direction helping them build the character and self-esteem they need to reach their full potential and value in society.
About This Cause
The Bridgeport Caribe Youth Leaders (BCYL) has made a significant impact in the community since its founding in 2003, transforming from a baseball league into a comprehensive youth organization. With a mission to provide sports, educational support, and civic direction, BCYL helps young people build the character and self-esteem necessary to reach their full potential. Key highlights include: Educational Programs: BCYL offers in-school tutoring and SAT prep, focusing on personalized support to address academic disparities. In 2023, 81 volunteer tutors helped 564 students across 21 schools, with 90% showing improvement in their targeted areas. Sports and Civic Engagement: In addition to educational initiatives, BCYL organizes sports activities and civic programs like food and toy drives, neighborhood clean-up days, and voter registration drives. Community Impact: Serving over 13,000 youth, many from low-income families, BCYL is committed to improving educational outcomes and fostering civic responsibility in Bridgeport, where many families face economic challenges.
