About This Cause

Located in Leavenworth Washington, Tierra Village (DBA Tierra Learning Center) provides homes and services for people with developmental disabilities (I/DD) in a collaborative and integrated community in which people of all abilities live as equal citizens with full respect for their human rights, freedom and dignity. Our mission at Tierra Village is to provide homes and services for people with developmental disabilities in a collaborative and integrated community where people of all abilities live as equal citizens with full respect for their human rights, freedom, and dignity. It is generous donors like you who make this possible. Our programs serve to assist individuals with developmental disabilities in maximizing their independence, connecting with and contributing to community in meaningful ways, and finding success at being leaders of their own lives. Coyote House, an adult family home, is a dedicated residential program for adults with developmental disabilities including autism, downs syndrome and others. The home opened in 2013 and boasts 7 bedrooms, 5 of which have a private bathroom. One of the bedrooms is dedicated as an overnight bedroom for the staff on duty in the evening. The residents receive 24-hour supervision and support from professionally trained care givers. The residents receive all their meals at Coyote House except when there are special events at which meals are provided. They attend the TRAILS program (Vocational, Educational and Recreational Activities) four days a week from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The main avenues through which TRAILS provides these lifelong learning activities are vocational, educational and recreational activities. Tierra’s Employment Services is a unique employment service for individuals with developmental disabilities who require ongoing support services to succeed in competitive employment. Our clients are referred to us from the Developmental Disabilities Administration, a division of the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. Tierra provides support to job seekers to gain employment in their own communities. Once employed, Tierra provides ongoing job coaching and career development support. Services include supporting clients in job placement, arranging for transportation, job training and procuring necessary assistive technology to perform job duties. All employment placements are individual, paying at least minimum age. Placements can range from part time up to full time depending on individual choice, job goal and job availability. Tierra Learning Center is the only Agency in the Chelan/Douglas County to offer these services. Trails seeks to empower individuals to be leaders of their own lives through vocational training, the arts, environmental education, and community connection. Participants include the residents of Coyote House as well as those from the broader community. The day program provides much needed respite to the family care givers of adults with developmental disabilities while teaching new skills to the participants. Trails is the only program of its kind in all of Chelan/Douglas County. Activities include a wide variety of art activities, gardening, horseback riding, hiking, skiing, river rafting, weekly bookmobile visits, cooking and tending our two miniature donkeys, Lupin and Pig Pen. Through these activities participants learn life skills all while having “fun”! Tierra provides scholarships to those who cannot afford to pay, meaning that no one is excluded due to inability to pay. Tierra Village is an IRS 501 (c) (3) public charity.
