Mission Statement
OUR MISSION is to provide emergency shelter to families who have lost their homes to disaster or conflict, enabling them to rebuild their lives. ShelterBox is a global nonprofit organization made up of people who believe that shelter is a basic human right. We believe that refuge from the chaos of disaster and conflict is vital. When people are plunged into crisis, normality is suspended. But good, quality shelter can cut through the chaos. This is why we provide tools that enable people to rebuild homes and transform their lives.
About This Cause
OUR VISION is a world where no family is without shelter after disaster. Since 2000, ShelterBox has helped more than 2 million people by responding to over 300 disasters and humanitarian crises in more than 100 countries. ShelterBox hand-delivers the essential shelter and supplies that families need to rebuild their lives. Each year, ShelterBox responds to an average of 25 disasters and conflicts, many never make news headlines. Worldwide, ShelterBox will have provided over 200,000 vulnerable children, women, and men with shelter last year, but it is not enough. In the past 5 years, we have successfully grown and scaled our organization to meet more of the growing shelter need worldwide. While it took us 15 years to reach our first million served, it took just 5 years to reach our 2nd million and we hope to help the third million even more rapidly. An organization committed to effectiveness and efficiency, ShelterBox has received a Four-Star rating from CharityNavigator and a Platinum standing from GuideStar. ShelterBox has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 and 2019, for our ongoing efforts to help keep families and communities together after conflict.
