About This Cause
Created in 1992 by a group of concerned citizens, Joshua House is a therapeutic residential shelter that provides a safe, nurturing, family-like environment for children six to seventeen years old. These children have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services due to severe to significant abuse. Many have been through multiple foster homes due to a pattern of trauma and grief behaviors. Joshua House serves approximately 200 children each year, with no more than 48 children and teens in residence at a time. Our homes are family-like environments set within a neighborhood-type setting. Friends of Joshua House Foundation was formed in 2004 by the founders of Joshua House in order to build resources, develop opportunities, and program services that directly benefit the children served at Joshua House. In 2020, Joshua House was jeopardized and Friends of Joshua House Foundation stepped up to purchase the homes, restore the services and administer the therapeutic, and residential components of Joshua House and support the children that call it home. Recognizing a greater need, services were expanded into the entire Tampa Bay area to provide resources/supports to all foster children. Joshua House is unique in addressing the therapeutic needs of foster children in its care. Providing individual, group, and family therapy for youth that have been traumatized by physical, sexual, and mental abuse. Helping to stabilize behaviors in order for placement or adoption success. In many cases, we also prepare these youth to age out of foster care with a comprehensive plan for support and success. Joshua House provides a warm and loving home for abused children, 24/7. The care and services are comprehensive, individual, and specific to each child's unique needs.
