Mission Statement
Houston PetSet's mission is to end homelessness and suffering of companion animals and elevate their status in society.
About This Cause
Since 2004, Houston PetSet, a Houston-based nonprofit organization, has been making a difference in the lives of suffering, abused, and abandoned animals. Our mission is to end homelessness and suffering of companion animals and elevate their status in society. HPS’s approach to achieving our mission is data-driven and focused on collaboration. Since the organization’s inception, Houston PetSet has provided more than $3 million in funding and outreach to over 100 animal welfare, shelter and rescue groups working on the frontlines every day to save lives and end suffering. It is through these partnerships and the data resulting from them that Houston PetSet developed its six impact areas to reduce the numbers of homeless and abused animals in Houston’s high need (documented high numbers of stray animals on the streets), low-income areas of the city. Those impact areas include, (1) Spay and Neuter; (2) Cruelty Prevention; (3) Transport and Rescue; (4) Research; (5) Community Service and Education; (6) Advocacy. Since 2017, Houston PetSet has transported more than 4,000 dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies to new forever homes outside of Texas to shelters who request more animals for adoption. As of January 2020, we have provided nearly 1,000 free spay and neuter surgeries to owned pets in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Houston; and as of March 2020, when COVID19 began to seriously impact the city, we provided 250 emergency surgeries for animals that would otherwise suffer and die in front of their owners or on the streets. Some of the traumatic injuries have included gunshot wounds and animals hit by cars. Houston PetSet also funds two full-time Harris County Precinct 5 Animal Cruelty Task Force Officers that follow-up on 1,000 calls each year.
