Mission Statement

Rabbits are classified as both pets and livestock, so they are farmed, experimented on, eaten, worn, made into lucky charms, and some are kept as household pets. Unfortunately like other companion animals, domestic rabbits are also discarded by irresponsible owners. Thousands of rabbits end up in animal shelters each year, and they are the 3rd most euthanized animal in shelters annually. It is because of these sad truths, the Gainesville Rabbit Rescue was created. Gainesville Rabbit Rescue is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1998 by 2 University of Florida students. GRR’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt out rabbits to loving homes, as well as educate current and potential rabbit owners. GRR does not turn away any rabbit regardless of disability, illness, age, or temperament. Rescued rabbits are nursed back to optimum health and spayed/neutered before being placed up for adoption.

About This Cause

Considered exotics specialty veterinary care may be needed to return the rescued rabbit to optimum health - we work closely with local veterinarians and request discounts in order to be a good steward to the monies that are collected for the rabbits.
