Mission Statement

Animal Rescue of the Rockies rescues dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters, places them in foster homes, and adopts them to loving forever homes. Our mission is to end the killing of homeless dogs and cats in shelters by helping to spread the word about adoption vs. buying pets. About This Cause

Established in 2003 in Colorado, Animal Rescue of the Rockies is dedicated to saving the lives of homeless and orphaned dogs and cats. In 2023, over 1,450 lucky dogs and cats found forever homes through ARR's programs. We pull at-risk dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters, place them in prequalified foster homes, and adopt them to approved loving forever homes. In addition to foster homes, our Cat Casita in Fairplay, Colorado houses adoptable cats, and we also feature adoptable cats at several PetSmart stores. All of our adoptable dogs are in foster homes. We also operate a thrift shop at 203 N. Main St. in Breckenridge, Colorado. We believe that all animals deserve the right to live, and do not condone the killing of shelter pets for any reason other than terminal illness. Instead, we encourage shelters and rescue organizations to work together towards a common goal of ending euthanasia in our country's shelters. Many facets are included in the "no-kill" mission embraced by Animal Rescue of the Rockies. These include educating people about the benefits of adopting a shelter pet vs. buying a pet from a breeder or pet store, ending the cruel puppy mill industry, eliminating all breed-restrictive legislation, and working towards the day when every pet will be ensured a loving, happy home.
