Mission Statement
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life in the Wabash River Corridor by creating sustainable opportunities to improve health, recreation, education, economic development, and environmental management.
About This Cause
The formation of WREC in 2004 was the direct result of the “1999-2001 Lafayette-West Lafayette/Tippecanoe County Vision 2020” which identified enhancement of the Wabash River Corridor as a top priority among community members and leaders. WREC actively partners with the Cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, and Purdue University, and through these well-established partnerships accomplishes great things on behalf of the Wabash River. We are working to improve the quality of life in Greater Lafayette by increasing access to the Wabash River through boat ramps, multi-use trails, riverfront greenspace, and environmental enhancement. We provide educational opportunities for residents to learn how they can improve water quality, host the annual celebration of the Wabash River - Wabash Riverfest, and work to acquire funding to support ecosystem improvement in the River corridor.
