Mission Statement
PEP’s mission is to unite executives and inmates through entrepreneurial passion and servant leadership to transform lives, restore families and rebuild communities. PEP’s vision is to create in Texas, a nationally recognized, pioneering standard of excellence in the application of character development and entrepreneurial energy for successful reentry and reduced recidivism - the “Harvard Model.”
About This Cause
To transform a broken man re-entering a society that doubts change, it requires more than job training. Success comes from character that is developed and challenged and solidified. It comes from the emotional support of a community that pours their heart and soul into his achievements. Success from having a vision of becoming the best person you can be and creating a pathway for how to achieve that. Since 2004, PEP has given men the opportunity to lead successful lives that have an exponential impact on their families and in their communities. PEP’s in-prison curriculum begins a year before release and provides comprehensive post-release service from the moment a participant walks out of prison. Our program seamlessly straddles both sides of the prison fence. The following summarizes the eight components of our comprehensive model. No scaled programs are offering PEP’s fully integrated approach. Some programs offer in-prison and post-release education, but no re-entry services. Other programs have an extensive in-prison curriculum but few post-release services. Several programs provide only in-prison or post-release services, not both. Our integrated pre- and post-release approach distinguishes PEP and is critical in reshaping participants for successful reintegration to society. Excellence in character is the foundation of our success. PEP’s pre-release program begins the character development process on day one. This process begins with the end in mind – whatever you want your eulogy to be, today is the time to start writing that script. Character is reinforced through the next two pre-release phases with peer 360°-character assessments. Post-release, character is reinforced in our transition homes where the culture incubated pre-release is nurtured as men. A 2018 study by Harvard's Initiative for a Competitive Inner City demonstrated that our released graduates achieved: * 100% employed within 90 days of release, averaging 21 days from prison to paycheck. * 137% greater average starting wages ($17.17) than Texas minimum wage. * 100% of graduates are employed or self-employed after 12 months. * 7% three-year recidivism rate, compared to 22% in Texas and 36% nationwide. * $4.3 million in cost savings to the State of Texas and the federal government. * $12,053 in cost savings/graduate to the state and federal governments after one year. * 159% ROI/graduate after one year; 794% ROI/graduate after five years.
