Preserving Indigenous Languages, Land, Practices and Culture. Guatemala Aid fund (GAF) is a 100% Volunteer Non-Profit dedicated to assisting successful Guatemalan programs focused on eliminating the sources of poverty, child abuse and abandonment and environmental damage. Programs focused on long term education and training, medical support, malnutrition prevention support, job and skill training and family strengthening. Sustainability, habitat, biodiversity and land protection in Guatemala. The goal is to provide meaningful support, with investment by the recipients to maximize the probability for self-sufficiency and productive lives in their communities and in their own country. Core goals include supporting the Guatemalan Work Force, promoting sustainable energy and environmental practices, actively preservating indigenous languages and cultures, and supporting the psychological well-being of the children and families. We support programs that provide dignity, respect and opportunity to uplift families and communities, and care for those in need so they may reach a goal of a healthy, productive and independent life.

About This Cause

Guatemala aid fund supports Guatemalan-run programs that change the cycle of extreme poverty and the desperate and dangerous paths towards migration by providing access to education, employment, health care and food production to some of the poorest families in the world. The programs are community run and are not based on hand outs. They require participation by the recipients as they work towards changing the trajectory of their lives. The programs embrace and preserve the local indigenous culture, habitats and environment, bringing pride to the community and resulting in successful outcomes. Just a little opportunity, like access to school, and water, these programs are empowering children, adults, families and communities to permanently change their lives so they may find healthy, productive futures in their own communities and stay in their own country. The 100% volunteer Guatemala Aid Fund began in 2001 as a small effort by an adoptive Mother to support abandoned children in Guatemala by sending infant clothes, medicines and supplies. Since then GAF has grown into a larger 501 C (3) that currently partners with successful childcare advocates, environmental preservationists, community program developers and educators that provide school support, job training, jobs, emergency housing, food, psychological services, health care, clean water access, and most importantly, programs that are based on eliminating the root causes of poverty. We are in constant contact with program directors and make multiple visits to the programs. We are completely confident that our partners know the best ways to implement their support programs to best serve the Guatemalan Communities they live in. However, we are included in the planning of the programs, the progress, changes and new directions and the distribution of funds we provide. We have full accounting of all donations. A key priority is the consistency of education from early childhood through adulthood. The children, adults and families these programs serve would otherwise have no access to education thereby limiting their opportunities for rising out of extreme poverty and malnutrition. The in-village Community Center Support Program is in the Indigenous region of Sololá Guatemala. This location is providing education, employment, job training and health care access to the indigenous population in a rural poverty-stricken area. This rural project is in full alignment with GAF core goals to promote the preservation of indigenous languages, culture, sustainable agriculture, water quality and forest/habitat protection with deep involvement and support from the indigenous community. The programs we work with engage the community, and are operated, staffed, and promoted by the local Guatemalan community. We also provide money to specifically support sustainable practices including recycling programs, solar panels, water management, and sustainable agriculture and preservation of traditional indigenous practices. Your investments in the programs GAF supports literally save lives and creates futures for so many Guatemalans that wish to stay, support themselves and their families in their own country. Migration is an act of desperation, and with just a small donation you can directly help families stay and find healthy paths for their families. Thank you for considering the Guatemala Aid Fund for sharing your Love and Prosperity
