About This Cause
New Heights is a sports-based youth development organization that creates opportunities for youth to rise to their potential on the basketball court, in the classroom and in their communities. Our mission is to educate and empower promising underserved youth to be leaders, champions and student-athletes by developing the skills necessary for success in high school, college and life. Our coaches and educators are positive role models who guide youth through adolescence and into young adulthood, and motivate them to develop the social, behavioral, academic and athletic assets necessary for maintaining physical and mental health throughout their lives. As a sports-based youth development organization, New Heights uses intentionality to combine basketball programming with services that support college and career readiness, social emotional learning, and physical and mental health. Through this lens, we design and deliver a variety of after-school, weekend and summer programs that engage upwards of 1,500 young people annually. The majority of our program participants come from under-resourced communities throughout New York City. Over 85 percent of our current participants identify as African-American, Hispanic/Latino(a) or multi-racial, and many will be the first in their families to graduate from college.
