Mission Statement
Mission Statement: Through peer-to-peer support, education, and advocacy, we partner with families of children with behavioral health needs to improve their quality of life. Values: Family Voice: We believe that families are best equipped to advocate for themselves, set their own goals and priorities, and make decisions about their care. Natural Supports: We believe that families are most successful when they connect with those who have lived experience and extended family and friends. Strengths-Based Approach: We believe that all families have strengths and assets to be acknowledged and built upon. Collaboration: We believe that teams of families, natural supports, and service providers can work together collaboratively to meet individual needs. Persistence: We believe that every family deserves our attention as long as they continue to need and desire our help. Vision: Families will be empowered, respected, valued, and encouraged by an accepting community and responsive child-serving systems and providers.
About This Cause
AFN is a non-profit 501 c (3) in Allegheny County Pittsburgh, PA. Our Board of Directors are at least 50% "Family Members" meaning they have raised or are raising a child with behavioral health needs. We hire parents/caregivers who have raised or are raising children with behavioral needs to support families. We have a statewide program named PA Parent and Family Alliance supports and educates families and providers of family services across the commonwealth. The PA Parent and Family Alliance website address in www.paparentandfamilyalliance.org with has incredible information for families and providers. AFN's website is www.alleghenyfamilynetwork.org. AFN supports families from our "lived experience" and National credentialing, Parent Peer Support, through Family Run Executive Directors Leadership Association (FREDLA), Strength Based Family Workers Credentialing through Temple University, and the National Federation of Families Parent Peer Provider credentialing. Very effective service in engaging families.
