Mission Statement

Save Ecuador's Animals/Merazonia is an American 501(c)(3) charity, created to support conservation efforts in Ecuador, specifically those of the Merazonia Reserve. Merazonia is an internationally renowned rescue and rehabilitation center for injured and illegally trafficked wildlife. Merazonia also aims to make a long-lasting positive impact on the rainforest through land protection and purchase in combination with educational projects. The US charity supports these conservation and education projects. Merazonia does not receive any governmental support and does not receive tourists. Therefore, volunteers and donations are vital for the animal care, releases and other conservation projects.

About This Cause

Merazonia is located where the Andes meets the Amazon and therefor had a unique blend of flora and fauna. WWF names the area "A gift to the earth" for its unique biodiversity. Over the past years Merazonia has implemented many successful rehabilitations. The list of reintroduced animals includes Woolly monkeys (3 groups), Red howler monkeys (2 groups), tamarin monkeys (8 groups), blue-headed parrots (4 groups), three and two toed sloths (around 270), kinkajous (23), three Neotropical otters (4), several felines (margay, ocelots and oncillas), agoutis, anteaters, armadillos, boas, coatis and other animals. Merazonia directly impacts the lives of many individual animals that fell victim to illegal trafficking or habitat loss. An important long-term goal is to complete the reintroduction programs for the woolly monkeys and red howler monkeys (meaning having a second generation, descendant of released monkeys, born in freedom). With your support, Merazonia makes a direct impact on the lives of many individual animals, and the local economy. Donations are vital for our animal and rainforest conservation projects.
