Mission Statement
Greenhouse is a diverse community of leaders working together to ensure people of all backgrounds can live a life of their choosing.
About This Cause
Founded in Colorado in 2005, Greenhouse Scholars (DBA: Greenhouse) was established following an analysis about college persistence rates and the power of education as the fundamental solution for a broad array of issues. A first of its kind, Greenhouse was one of the only organizations in the country supporting students during college with more than just tuition scholarships. For 18 years, Greenhouse has provided extraordinary leaders from under-resourced and underrepresented backgrounds personal, professional, and financial resources designed to help them realize upward mobility and community impact, and live a life of their choosing. Our results are outstanding. 97% of Greenhouse Scholars graduate from college, compared to 15% of all low-income, first-generation students. Starting salaries of Greenhouse Scholars are 2x that of both their parents and are 22% higher than their peers - changing the trajectory of entire families. Moreover, the average college debt of Greenhouse Scholars is $2,026, compared to $39,351 nationally. With our Scholars and alumni, we have started 368 nonprofits, for-profit businesses, and community change initiatives. Our work is captured by our Community Change Model, which features three program components. Our Whole Person College Program serves high-performing and under-resourced students for five years, with seven comprehensive program components: mentorship, professional networking, skills modules, Summer Symposium, internships, financial support, and impact projects. Our Post-College Young Leaders Program provides comprehensive support to Greenhouse Alumni in the early stages of their career and post-college life with three program components: learning, relationships, and entrepreneurship. Our Sustaining Program maximizes idea potential and individual potential through the collaboration of our diverse community of leaders. Together, we are truly the community transforming communities.
