Mission Statement

To be a transitional housing program that helps homeless families become self-supportive, self-reliant contributors to society.

About This Cause

Hillcrest Ministries of MidAmerica, Inc., dba Hillcrest Transitional Housing, serves homeless households throughout Greater Kansas City (Kansas and Missouri), providing housing facilities, case management, and direct assistance to meet their needs. Households enter our high accountability program homeless and leave self-sufficient, gaining or improving employment and/or education, reducing reliance on government assistance, improving self-worth and health, and attaining permanent housing of their choosing. In total, Hillcrest operates 23 buildings across the Greater Kansas City region, with 90 residential and 9 non-residential units (for administrative and program space). Hillcrest offers an Adult Transitional Living Program for heads of households who may be single or married, with or without children. Families may stay at Hillcrest for up to 90 days. Hillcrest also offers a Youth Transitional Living Program for unaccompanied homeless minors who may be single or married, with or without children. Youth may stay at Hillcrest in this program for up to 24 months. In both programs (adult and youth), Hillcrest residents receive access to the following: 1. Safe, stable, appropriate housing. Most apartments include a living room, eat-in kitchen, one bedroom, one bathroom, and internet access. Some apartment units are two bedrooms. 2. Community space for study and recreation, case management meetings, life skills classes, and laundry. 3. A comprehensive age-appropriate case management model, including social and emotional well-being and strength-based approach. 4. Provision of basic needs. All Hillcrest residents have access to on-site food and toiletry pantries. In addition, they receive vouchers to purchase clothing and household items in our two thrift stores. 5. Screening and assessment. Each Hillcrest resident completes a comprehensive intake form upon entering the program to identify challenges and barriers to self-sustainability. Residents then meet weekly with case managers and budget counselors to create plans for addressing challenges.
