Mission Statement
The BCPO was formed to raise scholarship funds to bridge the gap between tuition vouchers provided to lower-income families by the Children’s Council of San Francisco and the actual cost of tuition. In September 2006, the BCPO became an official tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
About This Cause
The Big City Parents Organization (BCPO) was founded in 2005 by parents to address diversity at Big City Montessori School. Concerned parents noticed that a growing number of families were unable to send their children to Big City Montessori – families whose tuition was subsidized by Children’s Council of San Francisco. Due to state/federal funding cuts, many either had their benefits greatly reduced or lost them altogether. What We Do: Scholarship Gala and Community Events The BCPO plans the annual Scholarship Gala for the school community, which is the primary fundraising event each year. We also plan a number of other community events and fundraising activities during the year such as bake sales, MyGym play dates and special retail promotions for BCMS families where the businesses also contribute to our scholarship fund. 100% of funds raised from the Scholarship Gala and community events are used for scholarships to provide tuition assistance for several children to attend the school.
