Mission Statement
RAHAB Ministries provides Christ-centered transformational services to those directly affected by sex trafficking in Northeast Ohio.
About This Cause
RAHAB (Reaching Above Hopelessness and Brokenness) Ministries, Inc. began reaching out to vulnerable women on the streets of Akron, Ohio in 2002 – long before the term human sex trafficking was known and understood in mainstream culture. Today, as this form of modern slavery continues to grow, RAHAB consistently goes into all the places we believe Jesus would have gone (including the streets, prisons, strip clubs, courts, schools and more) to let His love live through us. Our programs are designed to meet and engage victims at every point along their journey from victim to survivor; from being trapped in brokenness to healing and wholeness. RAHAB is in the business of setting people free, and our continuum of programs are cutting-edge, trauma-informed and designed to offer victims hope for a way out. We link arms and walk alongside women and girls traumatized by this crime through their journey to encourage and support them in tangible and intangible ways as they begin a new life where they not only survive - but thrive. Outreach is where RAHAB began in 2002 and remains a pivotal aspect of programming – It is where our boots hit the ground and where we pursue the broken and undervalued women. Our outreach ministry includes our street ministry, strip club ministry, jail ministry, and Summit County Human Trafficking Task Force. Our street and strip club ministry are made up of highly trained volunteers that walk the walk and bring friendship and gift bags to the streets of high-risk neighborhoods where women and children are especially vulnerable to trafficking. RAHAB goes where they are to show them that they have value and that there is hope and a way out. In our jail ministry, volunteers connect with incarcerated women through jail visits, writing letters and leading group Bible Studies. Through our outreach ministry, the women pursued are invited to visit our Drop-in Homes, one of our community-based programs. RAHAB’s Drop-in Homes are in Akron and Canton. These homes provide women who come through our door with family-style meals, organized therapeutic activities, clothing, and personal care items. Our drop-in home staff and volunteers also offer mentoring, Bible studies, assistance in securing housing, gaining employment, and fulfilling community service requirements. We also work to connect them with other community resources when needed instead of duplicating those services. Our community-based programming also serves sex trafficked and at-risk youth. Selah’s Place, our juvenile drop-in centers located in Summit and Stark County, serve as safe places for youth. RAHAB partners with the local juvenile courts in Summit County and Cuyahoga County to provide one-on-one mentorship with youth on the docket. The Willows, our minor-based community program, leads a family-centered approach to provide supportive services to children, ages 11-17, in partnership with their caregivers, to offer support in serving trafficked children.
