Mission Statement
Architects Without Borders Seattle mobilizes a network of volunteers to help underserved communities and organizations in King County and around the globe solve problems by applying skills of architectural practice, design, and engineering.
About This Cause
Architects Without Borders Seattle plays a unique role in serving Seattle, King County, and international locales by providing expertise to local nonprofits in need of facilities solutions who may otherwise not have access to design, management, and engineering expertise. In this role we act as a force multiplier for these organizations, enabling them to pursue their missions more robustly and to serve their constituents and the public more effectively. AWBS's Core Values: • Appropriate design solutions, predesign, and effective project management are vital to communities and the environment • Collaborative long-term relationships with communities are essential to providing effective project assistance • Volunteer passion, energy and efforts make our work possible Architects Without Borders Seattle supports design for stronger organizations and communities. Current projects include work space improvements for local nonprofits, facilities improvements to buildings serving marginalized communities, schools, and medical facilities. AWBS solves a chicken and egg problem for local and overseas organizations. Without project planning and design in place, it is challenging for organizations to raise funds to build. Yet without funds, it is challenging, if not impossible, to advance a building project. AWBS helps solve this problem by providing skills which organizations and entities, in line with our core values, need to raise funds to develop their projects.
