History of Organization Description The Boston Pearl Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) organization established in 2005 by members of Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Boston, MA. The Boston Pearl Foundation exists to educate, empower, and engage the communities it serves. Established and administered by African American women, The Boston Pearl Foundation is uniquely situated to address the complex and diverse needs of underserved communities in the greater Boston area. Purpose As the charitable arm of Psi Omega Chapter—which itself has an over 94-year history of exemplary community service—the purpose of The Boston Pearl Foundation is to create a greater means of empowering underserved Boston area communities and to support the educational pursuits of community members by promoting and encouraging charitable gifts. Goals and Objectives The primary ways in which The Boston Pearl Foundation carries out its mission is by: • Sponsoring and supplementing quality programs and activities that improve the well-being and enhance the leadership skills of individuals in Boston communities • Awarding scholarships that support higher education and lifelong learning • Fostering partnerships and vital connections with other area organizations Of particular programmatic interest are those that focus on: education, the black family, health, economic empowerment, and the arts. These community education programs are conducted in conjunction with a variety of community organizations. Recently sponsored programs include a virtual college fair and partnering with the American Cancer Society Makes “Rides” for Breast Cancer.
