Mission Statement
The Jordan Thomas Foundation returns children and adolescents to a life without physical limitation by providing quality prostheses until adulthood, serving as a caring resource for the child and family living with limb difference and tirelessly advocating for insurance fairness.
About This Cause
After losing both his legs below the knee in a boating accident in 2005, Jordan Thomas made the commitment to help other kids like him get the prostheses they needed to live active, healthy lives. Now the Jordan Thomas Foundation supports families who otherwise couldn’t afford it — allowing kids to live their dreams. JTF provides children living with limb loss and limb difference with the prostheses they need throughout their growing years. Kids need to replace their prostheses every 18-24 months because they outgrow them just like clothes and shoes. We are committed to supporting our JTF Kids with the prostheses they need from the moment they join our family through the age of 18. From providing specialized prosthetic devices that allow our recipients to participate in activities they are passionate about to paying for the activities themselves, we go beyond just simply supplying the basic prosthetic device because we believe in creating a better quality of life for kids. We understand that having limb differences can be challenging for families. The initial costs… the replacement costs… the extra activity costs… all of these can become overwhelming and cost prohibitive for families. That is why we are committed to assuring that every child has access to the prostheses they need to do whatever they want to do in life! Limbs are not a luxury! In addition to helping with the financial burden accessing prosthetic devices pose, we connect families with each other, helping them build connections with others living with limb loss and limb differences. Whether through our Parent Advisory Board or our private Facebook groups – we create a caring community of support for our JTF Kids and their families. Providing prostheses directly to kids is the most immediate way we can help them thrive. But in order to affect long term change, we are fighting for insurance fairness and holding insurance companies accountable. Insurance coverage that deems activity limbs ‘not medically necessary’ and limits prostheses replacement to arbitrary timelines does not have the best interest of the growing child in mind. As an organization founded by someone directly affected by traumatic limb loss as a child, JTF is uniquely positioned and intimately aware of the challenges faced by children and families living with limb loss and limb differences. Nothing was going to stop Jordan from being all he knew he could be, and nothing is going to stop him from assuring every other child has that same opportunity.
