Mission Statement

Legacy Brain Foundation is a non profit charitable organization that provides financial support to children and adults diagnosed with central nervous system tumors

About This Cause

The Legacy Brain Foundation is a registered non-profit organization (501(3)c) that provides financial assistance to children and adults diagnosed with central nervous system tumors. Our mission is to support these patients and their families that are struggling with the high costs of treatment for these devastating diseases. In addition, the Legacy Brain Foundation provides scholarships for brain tumor patients and their children attending college. LBF was founded in 2005 when a group of patients, their caregivers, and their physicians met to discuss the problems faced by brain and spinal cord tumor patients who were unable to afford the extensive treatment needed to control their disease. It was recognized that patients with both primary and metastatic brain tumors often required surgery, radiation therapy, and ongoing chemotherapy; yet many were disabled by their underlying tumor. Also, many patients felt isolated from others because of the perception that they faced a rare form of cancer. Since that time, the Legacy Brain Foundation, in partnership with other brain tumor organizations and support groups, has raised over $400,000. Through generous donations, memorial gifts, benefit concerts, kickball tournaments, the Stars Come Out gala and other events, LBF continues to provide brain tumor patients and their families assistance with treatment expenses, as well as emergency funds for basic living expenses. Over 90% of all funds raised go directly to support the LBF mission, with the remainder covering our newsletter, website, postage, and other administrative costs. LBF is able to keep operating expenses low with the help of an all - volunteer board who give generously of their time and talents. The Legacy Grant is open to any child or adult with a primary or metastatic central nervous system tumor that is a Texas resident or receiving their treatment in the state of Texas. Grants requested to cover the cost of treatment expenses are given the highest priority, although other expenses incurred by the patient may be considered on a case-by-case basis. The patient or family can request a maximum of $1000 per application, and the applicant can re-apply every 6 months. The Legacy Scholarship is available to brain tumor patients and their children who are Texas residents, and provides $1000 per semester up to a total of eight semesters of college. More information about grants and scholarships can be found at www.legacybrainfoundation.org. LBF is always looking for volunteers to serve on the board, plan upcoming events, and assist with the distribution of our newsletter. Volunteers make a real difference in the lives of brain tumor patients and their families when they need it most. Please consider supporting the Legacy Brain Foundation with your generous tax-deductible gift or your time and talents. Email legacybrainfoundation2000@gmail.com for further information.
