Mission Statement

Long Island Bulldog Rescue takes in, provides medical care and adoption services to English Bulldogs that are abandoned,or surrendered to us or shelters. We take great pains to ensure that the dogs are in the right home for them, and for the family.

About This Cause

In the 18 years since LIBR was founded, the English Bulldog has skyrocked from 46 th place to 5 th place nationwide, and 4th place in our region, per Akc registrations. The popularity has brought a host of problems, especially from bad breeding, bad care, downright neglect or abuse. We take them in, young, old, in need of expensive surgery, we rarely turn them away,That would be if a dog is truly dangerous. We counsel people who call to surrender to see if there is some way we can help them keep their dog, by recommending the right trainer, Veterinarian, food, or just helping them understand this largely misunderstood breed. We are able to help 2 out of three callers keep their dogs. We carefully screen adopters, visit the people and the home, and as far as we possibly can, ensure that the right match is made. These dogs are coming in requiring expensive surgeries, we negotiate discounted prices for vet care, then we have to raise the funds to cover all these expenses. We have all kinds of fundraisers going on.We have around 300 volunteers. LIBR follows up with the families that adopt from us as well.
