Mission Statement
Abode for Children is organized for charitable and educational purposes involving homeless and underprivileged children in third world nations. It is our mission to provide a life-changing atmosphere for children and give them the opportunity to become productive citizens in their respective countries.
About This Cause
Abode for Children was founded in 2006 to take over the responsibility of orphanage and education projects of Gospa Missions, a separate charity that originally instituted the Nigerian project in 1995 after its founder, Thomas Rutkoski, visited the country and was struck by the tremendous poverty there, along with the pitiful resources that passed as schools for the children. Right then, Thomas decided to build an orphanage and school. Abode for Children now supports orphanages and schools in both Nigeria and India. We are also working on a plan to develop a school and orphanage in the Philippines as our next project. The Nigerian school enrollment from early primary (6 years old) to senior secondary (up to 17 years old) is approximately 800 students, including the 160 children housed in the orphanage. The India school consists of classes from First Standard to Tenth Standard (ages 5 to 14 years old) and there are 400 students including the 60 boys and 60 girls in the orphanages there. We also have plans to expand the available space at this successful project. Abode for Children provided the funds to build and maintain these institutions, paying for all staff positions, maintenance of the facilities, food and shelter for the orphans, transportation, uniforms, activity costs, a medical center on campus and more. Abode for Children is the sole support of these institutions. A large part of funding to accomplish this is the monthly, quarterly or annual sponsorship of orphans and students. It is the goal of Abode for Children to give these beautiful children a fair chance at a better life than they ever could have imagined. A chance to be a strong and productive members of their community, their society and productive citizens of their countries.
