Mission Statement
The Phoenix’s mission is to build a sober active community that fuels resilience and harnesses the transformational power of connection so that together we rise, recover, and live.
About This Cause
The Phoenix provides FREE, innovative, long-term recovery support to individuals in need. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to build a nationwide sober active community that fuels resilience and harnesses the transformative power of social connection, so individuals can rise from the ashes of addiction and thrive! Through healing-focused social events and physical activities- like yoga, meditation, group fitness, rock climbing, paddle boarding, skiing, cycling, boxing, music, poetry, and so much more- we help individuals build their unique pathway to navigate long-term recovery. Sadly, addiction is currently affecting more people than ever before. In the United States, 39% of people will suffer from a substance use disorder at some point in their lives. Only 10% of individuals receive the treatment, leaving more than 20 million Americans without the support they need and deserve. In 2020 we saw the highest number of overdose deaths ever recorded in a 12-month period, according to recent provisional data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Our priority is to do everything we can to expand services to support and ultimately save lives in our communities. We are proud to say that 89% of members who actively participate in The Phoenix programs remain sober. Of those who relapse, two-thirds report that The Phoenix helped them return to sobriety. Results consistently show that more than 80% of members make significant improvements after just three months of participation. Members report a stronger sense of self-identity and meaning in life, improve coping skills, an increase in sense of purpose and hopefulness, and they feel empowered. The Phoenix utilizes a distinct peer-to-peer model to both reduce the stigma associated with recovery and provide support to participants by fostering a safe and inclusive community environment built on shared experiences. Peer recovery support is characterized by the provision of non-clinical peer support, which can include activities that engage, educate, and support individuals as they make the necessary changes to recover from substance use disorder. Studies demonstrate that peer recovery support helps individuals improve relationships with providers and social supports, reduce rates of relapse, increase satisfaction with overall treatment, and increase treatment retention. Furthermore, abstinence rates increase with group participation. We believe that when people can easily access Phoenix’s transformational programs, the intergenerational transmission of adverse experiences such as addiction and poverty will be significantly reduced, ultimately improving the lives of individuals, families, and communities for many years to come.
