Mission Statement
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Charlotte's mission is to provide essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare. Our Ronald McDonald House and Hospital programs provide families with free essential services, critical supplies, and the comfort and support of a "home-away-from-home" during their child's medical crisis. By alleviating everyday stressors and lifting financial burdens, families can focus their attention on what matters most: the health of their child.
About This Cause
The Ronald McDonald House program provides traveling families a safe place to call home just minutes from their child’s hospital, increasing their ability to spend time with their child, interact with their clinical care team, and participate in critical medical decisions. This 35,000 square foot facility can host up to 28 families, who are provided with a private room, daily meals, access to basic necessities, and support from our caring staff and volunteers. While it costs RMHC of GC $130 to host a guest family for one night, it is completely free to participating families. In 2023, 350+ families stayed at the Ronald McDonald House. Our Hospital programs include the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Caroline's Corner and Happy Wheels: Hospitality Carts. The Family Room provides onsite meals and refreshments, lounge and play spaces, and laundry and shower facilities to all 100+ patients and families at Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital. Whether a family’s home base is located 10 minutes from the hospital or temporarily at the Ronald McDonald House, this onsite space improves access to critical resources onsite. While it costs approximately $6,700/month to operate the Family Room, families have unlimited access to services and supplies at no charge thanks to the support of our community. In 2023, nearly 800 families were served at the Family Room. Hospitality Carts are mobile care units that roll through local hospitals, providing refreshments, toiletries, activity kits, and comfort items to families and patients at the bedside. In 2023, over 5,700 families were impacted by the Hospitality Carts.
