Mission Statement
Our mission is to save the hungry, the helpless, the lost, and the little ones just struggling to survive; to house and feed as many animals as possible; to east the suffering of the weak and unloved; to build a No-Kill community and realize the achievement of a No-Kill nation.
About This Cause
AniMeals is a 501(c) (3) non-profit and exists as a Food Bank and a No-Kill Adoption Center. Ten million animals are abandoned to the streets and shelters in this country every year. The shelters and rescue groups that house and feed these animals are struggling. AniMeals supplements the food needs of these homeless animals which frees up precious dollars for other critical needs, like medicine and surgeries. In addition, we feed the pets of the homebound and disabled; we supply food for the caregivers of feral cat colonies and dogs living on the streets. We have sent out over 700 tons of food and supplies in the last 10 years. Our territory covers all of the great state of Montana, consisting of approximately 147,000 square miles. Our shelter is a No Kill shelter. These kitties never have to face the possibility of landing on “the kill list”. Many of the cats that come through our doors have been saved from this fate after the decision has been made to end their lives. Life is the reason we are here. We believe loss of life should not be an option for an animal that has done nothing other than lost its human address. We take the cats that no other shelter will accept…the old and the infirm, the youngsters born to feral mothers that need socializing, and homeless kitties that need medical assistance. We believe that every life is valuable regardless of age or medical issues. We are a safe haven for those that have run out of options. Our mission is to place companion animals in loving homes with compassionate people who will make lifelong commitments to them by accepting them as a member of their family. We love the pets in our care and want to ensure that they only go to the best of homes. A large number of the homeless animals that come to us are in need of urgent care. Many suffer serious illnesses from neglect and harsh weather. Many have broken bones and life threatening injuries. Many require immediate, emergent veterinary care. When these situations present themselves and speed is essential to saving a life, no matter what time of the day or night it is, the cost is usually very high. It is important to get these animals stabilized as quickly as possible as shock alone can kill them. We help people who cannot afford veterinary expenses, whether it is basic or catastrophic circumstances; making sure that a pet gets the care it needs, keeps them healthy, and in the homes of the people who love them, rather than being relinquished to a shelter or “put to sleep” due to lack of finances. We have helped a little puppy with a hole in her heart through this fund, a cat that had to have a full mouth extraction, grooming for animals that were extremely matted because elderly owners were not able to keep up on daily brushing, and antibiotics for illness. Our Homebound disabled program is designed specifically for the pets of the elderly, disabled and homebound members of our community. A companion animal is sometimes the only "family" member they have, providing friendship, joy, and a reason for living. Every month AniMeals serves 104 cats, 80 dogs and 2 birds by providing food to local seniors and homebound disabled households. We work with seven different social service agencies that refer these people to us. We have 100+ seniors currently signed up to receive pet food. At times the cost of pet food can be an insurmountable obstacle for individuals living on a fixed income. It can mean the difference between keeping their beloved family member and feeding them applesauce, or surrendering them to an unknown future. Many seniors give up their food to feed their cats and dogs. Supplying pets with adequate daily meals makes it far more likely that everyone in the household is eating their own nutritious food. We also help families in crisis situations like a fire, foreclosure on their home, or loss of job. We provide food for the animals, bedding, dishes, and toys for as long as it takes for the family to get back on its feet. We rely entirely on donations from animal lovers everywhere. With your support we can help many more.
