Mission Statement
The DC Abortion Fund (DCAF) is a nonprofit organization that makes grants to pregnant individuals in the DC metropolitan area who cannot afford the full cost of an abortion. We are members of the National Network of Abortion Funds.
About This Cause
DCAF affirms that individuals of any reproductive age as decision-makers. When choosing to have an abortion, many face a multitude of local, state, and federal restrictions designed to deny their access to it. These restrictions disproportionately affect low-income adults, youth, and their families. We hope to make “choice” a reality, because we believe the right to healthcare should not depend on the ability to pay. DCAF believes in fully embodying the pro-choice principle by: • Offering an equitable distribution of direct financial assistance in the form of grants to individuals seeking abortion services who are unable to raise the full amount of the procedure themselves; • Raising awareness in the DC metropolitan area about how abortion restrictions - like the Hyde Amendment, which forbids federal Medicaid coverage of abortion services in most circumstances – are linked to a rollback of basic human rights.
