Downtown Streets Team (DST) strives to end homelessness through the dignity of work and the power of community.
About This Cause
Downtown Streets Team (DST) strives to end homelessness through the dignity of work and the power of community. The volunteer work-experience program provides homeless and at risk Team Members an opportunity to beautify their community in exchange for case management, employment services, and a basic needs stipend. Since its launch in 2005, DST has assisted more than 1,400 people in obtaining permanent housing or employment, and has removed more than 6.1 million gallons of debris from our streets, parks and public spaces. The non-profit has been recognized by the League of California Cities and California State Association of Counties Homelessness Task Force as one of the top five “Best Practices” for providing innovative services and effective support to individuals in California experiencing homelessness. DST’s program currently operates in sixteen communities throughout the Bay Area including: San Jose, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Hayward, San Francisco, San Rafael, Novato, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, Berkeley, West Oakland and West Sacramento.
