No More Tears is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization with a mission to assist and empower victims of Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence
About This Cause
NMT provides direct, immediate support for victims of human trafficking and domestic violence. In 2016 alone, the organization saved the lives of more than 100 victims of brutal physical and sexual violence. Since its inception in 2007, NMT has provided the resources for housing, legal counsel, meals, education, jobs, therapy and/or medical support to over 50,000 women, children and men in their care. It is this type of individualized, compassionate service that sets us apart from other victims' support agencies. NMT is a strictly volunteer-run organization and does not have any paid staff. As the President of No More Tears, I take no salary. The organization fundraises for its operations by hosting events and through the solicitation of individual and corporate donations and the submission of grant applications. During a typical month, the organization receives more than 20-30 referrals from police departments, the FBI and victim advocate organizations seeking immediate assistance. The first victim NMT assisted was a 19-year old girl brought to the U.S. from Morocco and forced by her husband to have sex with various men for money. This young girl's only dream after being married and living in the U.S. was to pursue her education. She used to hide in the bathroom and teach herself English with an Arabic to English dictionary. She was fortunate enough to find our brochure in an Arab grocery store and called NMT immediately for help. When we went with police officers to rescue her, she had chunks of hair missing from her scalp and her entire body was covered in bruises. After several months of therapy and being under our care, this woman graduated with a PhD in pharmacy in 2011. She is now a monthly donor for our organization and lives a safe and independent life free from abuse.
