Mission Statement
The Encyclopedia of American Politics
About This Cause
Ballotpedia is the online encyclopedia of American politics and elections. Our goal is to inform people about politics by providing accurate and objective information about politics at all levels of government. Ballotpedia's articles are 100 percent written by our professional staff and a small group of guest editors. All content written by our guest editors is reviewed and fact-checked by our staff. Who we are: Ballotpedia has an editorial staff of over 50 writers and researchers. Although we have an office in Madison, Wisconsin, the majority of our staff work from home offices across the United States. Geoff Pallay serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Ballotpedia. A full list of Ballotpedia's employees is available here. What we cover: Ballotpedia covers local, state and federal politics. Our content includes information on government officials and the offices they hold, political issues and public policy, elections, candidates, and the influencers of politics. All Ballotpedia content must be neutral, accurate, and verifiable. Ballotpedia currently has over 210,000 encyclopedic articles. Sponsorship: Ballotpedia is sponsored by the Lucy Burns Institute, a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization headquartered in Middleton, Wisconsin. The mission of the Lucy Burns Institute is to empower its audience to engage in democracy by delivering exceptionally high quality information. The Lucy Burns Institute is funded entirely by private contributions, and does not receive government funding. History and impact: Since Ballotpedia's founding in 2007, we’ve received over 450 million page views. Our work has been referenced in over 5,000 media outlets, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Politico.
