About This Cause
Founded in 1998, UrbanPromise seeks to be a community in Christ of servant leadership and transformation, seeking a full life for all involved: urban youth, families, volunteers and staff in the neighborhoods of our city. UrbanPromise is a faith-based organization, but we are non-sectarian and welcome youth and volunteers from all backgrounds and does not require them to participate in religious activities. UrbanPromise operates 6 after-school programs and a 6-week summer camp in 6 locations serving over 550 children throughout the city. Our StreetLeader® Job Training Program provides job training, leadership development, tutoring, and mentoring to 100 inner-city teens year round. The StreetLeader® program provides job experience and training, and offers multiple layers of support that enables teens to flourish in all aspects of life. We have two schools. UrbanPromise School (grades PreK-6) offers high quality, affordable education to 100 children. UrbanPromise Academy (grades 8-12) offers individualized high school instruction to students underperforming in a traditional academic setting. We also operate a sports league launched with basketball, flag football, and the UrbanTrekkers program. UrbanPromise provide wraparound services for children and teens through the support of 50 staff, 35 interns from around the world, and 1,800 volunteers.
