Mission Statement
Strategies to End Homelessness leads a coordinated community effort to end homelessness in Greater Cincinnati
About This Cause
Strategies to End Homelessness leads a coordinated community effort to end homelessness in Greater Cincinnati and envisions a community in which everyone has a stable home and the resources needed to maintain it. Through the coordination of the local homeless services system, the analysis of system-wide data, the administration of funding to partner agencies, and the operation of programs, Strategies to End Homelessness prevents homelessness whenever possible, assists people out of homelessness, and offers solutions to homelessness through housing, serving more than 11,000 people annually. Strategies to End Homelessness, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, leads a coordinated community effort to end homelessness in Greater Cincinnati. Working in partnership with 30 nonprofit organizations, our team coordinates the Central Access Point Helpline, a centralized emergency shelter helpline, homelessness prevention programs, street outreach, emergency shelter, and housing solutions. As the lead agency for our community's Homeless Management Information System, we utilize a data-driven approach to identify indicators that lead to homelessness and recidivism, allowing limited funding to be focused on cost-effective programs with the best outcomes. Collaborations and partnerships are the cornerstone of our work. Including: development of and funding for the Homeless to Homes Plan, a comprehensive effort to end homelessness for individuals; development and implementation of the Solutions for Family Homelessness Plan; leading the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program, with a goal to implement community-wide strategies to end youth homelessness; and partnering with data analytics company 84.51 to maximize the impact and effectiveness of the resources available. Strategies to End Homelessness was founded in 2007 as the Cincinnati/Hamilton County Continuum of Care for the Homeless, Inc., to lead and coordinate the local Continuum of Care for the Homeless in Cincinnati/Hamilton County. The following year the organization began administering Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG- later renamed Emergency Solutions Grant) funds, Housing Opportunities for Person with AIDS (HOPWA) funding, and the Homeless to Homes Plan and initiative on behalf of the City of Cincinnati. In 2012 we changed our name to Strategies to End Homelessness to reflect our broader work of new and innovative approaches to ending and preventing homelessness. In 2016, Strategies to End Homelessness was designated as a Unified Funding Agency by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Strategies to End Homelessness is one of only 14 Unified Funding Agencies out of about 400 Continuums of Care in the U.S. In this role, Strategies to End Homelessness has been recognized as having exemplary financial management systems. We were also given a level of authority and autonomy normally reserved for HUD, to make flexible funding decisions to address our partner agencies' needs, and the needs of people experiencing homelessness in real time. Partly because of our work, Cincinnati is nationally recognized as a leader in implementing innovative and effective programs to end homelessness. Strategies to End Homelessness has received multiple awards for excellence from the Ohio Department of Development and the HUD Columbus field office.
