Mission Statement

The Kansas City Curling Club is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit Organization, whose main objective is to promote the sport of curling across the greater Kansas City area. Our club coordinates curling activities for people of all ages by offering instruction, training, practice, and league play by providing equipment and ice rentals. This foundation gives our curlers the means to become competitive athletes on the regional, national, and international stage.

About This Cause

Having finished our 19th consecutive season, we have managed each year a Free Open House, 20 week winter season composed of three six-week leagues for beginners and experienced curlers, a summer league, and a yearly bonspiel (competition between clubs). This is our second full season on dedicated ice (no longer sharing with hockey and figure skating) and with that brings many new, but exciting challenges. We offer group and corporate event rentals to grow our membership and meet the additional financial challenges of maintaining a retrofit facility with an all-volunteer staff. The Kansas City Curling Club was initially formed in 1987. When the club started initially, the Ice Chateau facility in Overland Park was home. After a few years, the Club moved to Crown Center Ice Terrace. Due to various challenges, the Club went on hiatus in 1995 but was re-vitalized with the growth of the sport during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and reformed in 2003. From then until 2011, the Club played at the Pepsi Ice Midwest arena in Overland Park, and the final arena ice move was made to Line Creek arena in Kansas City. Coinciding with the 2022 Winter Olympics, the KC Curling Club finally opened its doors on a dedicated ice facility in the Blue Springs area. Now in our 20th season since being reformatted, we offer our members a 32-week season. Our Club is comprised of players of various amounts of experience, from beginners to seasoned players, locals and world travelers. The highlight of the year is always the annual Bar–B–Q Bonspiel. Participation in the bonspiel has grown over time. From 14 teams in the beginning to being completely booked (with a waitlist!) the past 5 years. This bonspiel has been an outstanding success, selling all spots in under 10 minutes. There are additional competitions through the season with opportunities for 5-and-Under (years of experience), juniors, mixed doubles, and men's/women's teams. We have hosted teams from various locations across the country, including Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver, New York, and San Francisco, and individual players from Canada, Scotland, and Switzerland. With the continued hard work of current and past members, the club has continued to grow. At present there are approximately 130 members. As a 501 c (3) non-profit organization, donations to the Kansas City Curling Club are deductible for income tax purposes.
