Mission Statement
The Embracing Project (TEP) is a Rite of Passage program advocating peace and healing for youth survivors of violence, sexual exploitation, and trafficking, through the development of specialized programs, trauma-informed care, and unconditional support.
About This Cause
The Embracing Project (TEP) was opened in 2013 and became the first and only drop-in center for sexually exploited youth in Las Vegas. In 2017, TEP became a Clark County School District (CCSD) approved site for Adult Education where SEY youth can obtain their education in a trauma-informed environment, meeting individualized needs. In 2018 Purple W.I.N.G.S (Women Inspire Noble Girls Successfully), the first trauma-informed mentoring program in Las Vegas area merged with TEP. The Girls Circle program was created in 2010 to address behavioral problems in young girls ages 12-18 as a result of emotional, sexual, and physical trauma, and the Angel program for girls ages 12-18 who are survivors of sexual assault, sexual abuse, and sex trafficking. Starting small by working with 5-10 girls, the program grew to service over 100 girls annually. The impact in the community was tremendous. Together, TEP and PWs became the preferred provider by many agencies; as a result, TEP is serving between 200-250 girls each year. In 2019, TEP merged with Rite of Passage (ROP) and became Rite of Passage, The Embracing Project ROP/TEP. Rite of Passage (ROP) is a 501c3 non-profit which has offered a diverse continuum of care to troubled, at-risk and vulnerable youth and young adult for 35 years. ROP is dedicated to improving the lives of youth, which is the mission statement of the national organization. The program has evolved from a 12-bed group home for boys to a nationally recognized organization that serves nearly 1,000 boys and girls annually with quality and innovative foster family programs, residential treatment (including specialized care for CSE youth) and CSE-specific court advocacy as well as trauma-informed case management, mentoring, crisis intervention, and education services. Rite of Passages as a national nonprofit, has branches in 15 states. Mission: Rite of Passage is dedicated to improving the lives of youth, families and communities. Vision: Our dedication to youth demands our full participation in providing services that empower them to become advocates in their own lives. Our values reflect those of a business founded by people who want to help youth succeed. Our youth-centered approach, with a focus on providing normalized environments, safety and caring relationships, as well as positive opportunities for learning and personal growth, reflects our commitment to tomorrow’s generation. On July 4th, 2019, Rite of Passage became the parent company of The Embracing Project and established another branch in Las Vegas. In August 2020, the United States Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) awarded ROP/TEP the Housing Assistance for Victims of Human Trafficking Grant. ROP/TEP is one of 73 agencies across 34 states to receive funds under this new OVC funding opportunity. This award will allow ROP/TEP to provide short-term, home-based shelter services with bed space for at least six female Clark County youth in Las Vegas, Nevada.
