Mission Statement

New Destiny Family Success Center’s mission is to cultivate healthy families in support of positive child and adult development.

About This Cause

The vision of the New Destiny Family Success Center (NDFSC) is to cultivate a community of thriving families, engaged in a network of caring support and bountiful resources. Our mission is to cultivate healthy families in support of positive child and adult development . NDFSC has contracted with the State of New Jersey’s Department of Children and Families since 2011 to deliver the Family Success Center Model to parents, families and youth of the Greater Paterson community. We were one of a half-dozen FSCs statewide who pioneered the establishment of the model, and began serving approximately 350 families in 2007 and now networks with over 40 community based and government agencies serving over 2,700 individuals and families annually. FSCs are multi-faceted community-based programs that offer families convenient access to information, support and resources that help develop and maximize their strengths and potential. The purpose of the Center is to enrich the lives of children by making families and neighborhoods stronger, and 70% of families improve their ability to provide for their children as evidenced in successful linkages to formal and informal supports, and 70% of families are strengthened as evidenced by their reaching goals on their family success plan. Core and expanded services provided by New Destiny FSC include: Access to child, maternal and family health services; Family success planning; Parent Leadership Development through participation on New Destiny’s Community Advisory Board; Parent education (evidenced parent education programs currently offered include: 24/7 Dads; Abriendo Puertes/Opening Doors; Active Parenting; and, free monthly parent/child activities to encourage bonding). The Center also provides employment related services; Life Skills (including Drivers Education prep class in English/Spanish; Survival English; Basic Computer Skills); Housing Related Services; Advocacy and other support; General Information and Referral/Linkages; Free Expungement Services; and, Immigration support in partnership with Northeast Legal Services. NDFSC has consistently outperformed outcome expectations related to the level of service which is contracted at 250 families annually while 2,700+ families were served in fiscal year ending June 30, 2021; we linked parents and families with essential services with an 85 percent success rate; the agency’s Community Advisory Board successfully engaged over 75 percent of its parent/community board members in outreach and volunteer opportunities. These numbers demonstrate NDFSC’s ability to reach out to and engage families, while creating and maintaining a warm, accepting environment for the diverse families that live in Paterson. NDFSC’s core capacities as an agency are rooted in family/parent engagement and building collaboration/partnerships which directly benefit the well-being of families and children. These core strengths are highly correlated with successful implementation of the Full Service Community School Model which NDFSC has administered in partnership with the Paterson Public School District and Administrative Staff of Public School 6 (recently renamed the Senator Frank Lautenberg School) since January 2014. There we have grown the breadth and scope of services to the parents, students and staff of the school and surrounding community. Among some of our accomplishments are the following: Enrollment in After School Enrichment Programming - From 10 students in 2014 to 128 students in 2016-17; 20% of students in 2015-2017 participated in youth and community center services/programming that addressed social and emotional learning including a four week summer enrichment program; Inspire Sports Camp; Mindfulness training; Painting and Drama; Implemented “Success Mentoring” in 2015-16 partnering with SFLS administration, instructional staff and AmeriCorps members reducing the number of students chronically absent from 272 to 137. This accomplishment was largely due to engagement of success mentors who were assigned responsibility for 4-5 students who were the most chronically absent. NDFSC also has the privilege of being a critical part of NJ First Lady Tammy Murphy’s “Nurture NJ” initiative, which is focused on improving health outcomes for babies and new moms, in particular equal access to healthcare for all NJ residents. We were part of the team that planned for, and outreached to community members about, the “Family Festival” that Mrs. Murphy hosted in Paterson in the Fall of 2018. During the same month of October, we were fortunate to be able to actively step up our involvement in this initiative through the hiring of a full time Community Health Worker who outreaches to 100-150 child bearing age women monthly (ages15-34) and provides intensive case management support to at least 20 of those moms, to assist them in getting the supports and resources they need, in collaboration with the Partnership for Maternal Child Health Central Intake. We also operate a series of six “Mobile Success Centers” for elder Paterson residents living in subsidized senior housing, and served 332 older residents since December 2018 to March 2019. Finally, NDFSC has successfully met the licensing requirements of the Department of Children and Families’ Child Care Licensing Department for the past two years and is licensed to operate after school and summer programming for up to129 student enrollees.
