Mission Statement

To ensure college and career success for high-potential students from low-income backgrounds, and through our efforts help build diverse, equitable and vibrant communities. We do this through a comprehensive model of financial aid and holistic support, and collaboration with our business, education, community, and philanthropic partners.

About This Cause

Win Wallin spent 39 years as an executive at Pillsbury and ten years as CEO of Medtronic. In 1992, Win and his wife Maxine Wallin identified cost as a barrier to college access. In response, they developed a scholarship for promising students with financial need. They realized that financial aid alone did not increase graduation rates so they developed a comprehensive program of support to increase the impact of their philanthropy. Each of our scholars receives financial aid, a dedicated Wallin advisor, robust college-and-career programming, and access to Wallin’s vast alumni and partner network. What began as a family foundation has become a separate non-profit with hundreds of donors, over 1,500 current scholars, and over 6,000 alumni. Today Wallin Education Partners is one of the most effective college-completion programs in the country. For 30 years, our program has increased graduation rates for underrepresented students from 21% (Pell) to over 90%, opening doors for them to pursue high-quality jobs, earn a livable wage, and strengthen our communities here in Minnesota.
