Mission Statement

YMCA programs are developmentally appropriate and help people at any stage of life build positive health habits. Participation in YMCA programs offers youth and adults opportunities for friendship and community, a sense of well-being, increased self-confidence and improved mental abilities. We believe that everyone has the desire to be well and that well-being is best cultivated by providing supportive relationships and environments. We also believe that all people should have the opportunity to be well in spirit, mind, and body. More than physical activity and healthy eating, YMCA healthy living encompasses a holistic approach to well-being that significantly enhances the lives of individuals, families, and communities. We provide a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for all ages to become healthier and stay well in spirit, mind, and body. Through meaningful programs in family time; health, wellness, and fitness; sports and recreation; and group interests, the Y shares resources,

About This Cause

 Member Services Every initiative the Y undertakes is designed to support and impact its membership community, with the intent of building healthy, confident, connected, and secure children, adults, and families. The YMCA of Trenton’s organizational infrastructure embraces the principle of membership as not only a business model, but as a mechanism for creating and sustaining member engagement in their health, family and community. Members, former members and potential members are considered important stakeholders in designing and measuring program outcomes. Furthermore, the organizational focus on diversity and inclusion has been established to ensure that membership reflects the broader community demographics, including race, ethnicity, income and special ability. Currently we engage 386 active facility members and over 175 program members.  Community Health and Wellness Health and well-being is a critical social issue adversely impacting the Trenton community. To support the community in reversing its trend, the YMCA of Trenton maintains a full fitness facility featuring treadmills, stationery bicycles, elliptical machiness, universal equipment, core strengthening equipment and free weights. All facility members receive two complimentary personal training sessions in order to fully orientate them on the use of the equipment, as well as design a personal training regimen to achieve optimal health. Our gymnasium is open daily to facilitate group sports such as basketball, indoor tennis and other structured physical fitness activities. Lastly, we offer a variety of group exercises classes for all fitness levels and ages , there are over 20 classes available. Core to its mission, the YMCA of Trenton also recognizes their responsibility as an organization to assume leadership in community collaborations, consortiums, and resource development in order to build community health assets. Building the organization’s leadership capacity is recognized as an important component of the strategic vision.  Childhood Obesity The YMCA of Trenton has integrated their youth development and community health objectives to address a very specific identifiable and measurable problem --- Childhood Obesity. Active within the broader city-wide initiative, the YMCA of Trenton has ensured that all of its youth and teen programs incorporate both a physical activity and nutrition component. Specifically, the Y’s Healthy U curriculum is being implemented.  Community Dance Academy A fairly recent shining star that has been added to our programming lineup is the 200 student dance academy. The dance academy offers a variety of genres led by professionally trained dance instructors including tap, ballet, hip hop, African and modern for a variety of age groups. There are over 25 classes offered weekly from September to June culminating in a performance to an audience of well over 1200 people at the War Memorial’s Patriot Theater. The YMCA of Trenton’s mission for a healthy mind, body and spirit targets all lifecycles. The Y is one of the few community-based organizations remaining in Trenton that includes offerings for mature adults and seniors; the organization plays a critical role in the lives of individuals and families regardless of age. Through exercise programs and volunteers opportunities, senior programming remains core to our vision.
