Mission Statement
The Raritan Valley YMCA is committed to building strong kids, strong families and strong communities throughout our area. It is a charitable, not for profit organization that welcomes all people regardless of age, race, religion, or economic status and strives to enrich each and every life through a unique, dynamic combination of programs that strengthen spirit, mind, and body. The Raritan Valley YMCA embraces the Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
About This Cause
The Raritan Valley YMCA was founded in New Brunswick, NJ in 1867. Outreach and community services extend beyond the walls of the YMCA and into areas with social and recreational needs by breaking barriers of disparity and access. The YMCA provides free swim lessons to hundreds of children each year through grant funded programs. Since the pandemic, we have organized weekly food distribution services, available 7 days a week, assuring no one goes hungry. Previous initiatives include free exercise and fitness opportunities, tennis training programs, day camp experiences, and youth obesity prevention efforts to those in need. The Y has history in the community and experience in providing programs and services to many populations. The population we serve varies greatly economically, racially, religiously and ethnically and maintains social disparities and participation barriers which we have addressed with past funding. Ninety percent of the children we serve in childcare receive subsidy and one-third of our campers attend on scholarship. We fulfill our mission very day and encourage support so that we can send a child to camp and teach another to swim.
