Mission Statement
Since 1879, thousands of women have passed through the portals of Academy of the Holy Angels high school, the oldest private girls’ school in New Jersey. Many go on to study at some of the nation’s best universities, earning high-ranking positions in medicine, government, law, education, public service, business, arts and athletics. Our goal is to provide each girl with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically, by offering a first –rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity and giving service to others.
About This Cause
Philosophy The Academy of the Holy Angels, founded in 1879, is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school dedicated to excellence in the education of young women. Grounded in the gospel message and in the tradition and charism of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the Academy welcomes students from many different communities, ethnic backgrounds, and religious affiliations, appreciating the uniqueness of each individual while working towards the fulfillment of Jesus Christ’s prayer “that all may be one.” Rooted in the conviction of the School Sisters of Notre Dame that “the world can be changed through the transformation of persons,” education at the Academy empowers each young woman to reach the fullness of her potential so that she, in turn, may share her gifts with others. The vision of a global community based on gospel values permeates life at the Academy, calling each young woman to leadership that advances justice, peace, and the integrity of creation. Goals To develop awareness in students of how one’s faith tradition creates meaning and purpose in life and to encourage them in the practice of their faith. To create a strong Catholic Christian community which fosters friendship and in which mutual acceptance, respect, and concern for one another affirm the self-worth and dignity of each person. To provide a well-integrated curriculum that will challenge students to independent critical thinking, the love of learning and the pursuit of excellence. To design an academic program for each student that develops her abilities, interests, and potential. To offer a varied and dynamic co-curricular and extracurricular program which develops the whole person. To foster self-discipline and provide an orderly environment as essential supports to our academic atmosphere. To prepare young women for their future challenges and opportunities in a complex world. To encourage generous service and leadership in religious, educational and civic activities. To help form the students’ identity within a global community, calling them to work toward social justice and peace for all peoples, especially those who are poor and marginalized. To assist students in making a lifelong commitment to sustainability and the integrity of creation.
