Mission Statement
Agawam Council is an organization that provides a group living experience for young people through its programs: Camp Agawam and Main Idea at Camp Agawam. The nurturing, safe environment and facilities permit a wide variety of sports and learning activities. The ultimate goal is to promote personal growth, character, development of optimum potential and responsibility, leadership skills, enhancement of self-esteem, and awareness of community, beauty, truth, fortitude, and love for everyone involved with the organization.
About This Cause
Camp Agawam is a residential summer camp for boys. Since 1919, the values of sportsmanship, service to others, and stewardship of the natural world have been at the heart of the Agawam experience, which takes place each summer on a 165-acre campus on beautiful Crescent Lake in Raymond, Maine. Our structured seven-week program is packed with opportunities for leadership, teamwork, and healthy competition in a digital-free environment. In a world of constant change and relentless distractions, Camp Agawam remains steadfast, anchored in over a century of tradition. Boys return year after year because they love it, and parents appreciate our commitment to building character and personal growth. Each boy leaves camp with new skills, new friends, and a new sense of his own capacity, joining a dedicated alumni network that extends around the globe. We believe in the potential of every boy to be the best of whatever they are. The Agawam environment promotes independence, while also recognizing the value of counselors and peers for companionship, camaraderie, and support. At Agawam, we set high standards for behavior, character, sportsmanship, leadership, and mutual respect. Our program balances recreation with skill and knowledge development, competition with cooperation, and structure with flexibility. Camp Agawam is one of the nation’s oldest summer camps. Especially unique is Agawam’s status as a non-profit organization. In 1985, after the retirement of owners/directors Dave and Peg Mason, a group of former campers and counselors came together to purchase Agawam, with the goal of ensuring that Agawam would continue to thrive as a summer camp. Composed of alumni, families, and friends, the Agawam Council helps provide strategic planning and oversight of camp programs and the camper experience.
