Mission Statement
Dignity’s mission is to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty that confronts low-income families and individuals in Philadelphia. . We work to fulfill our mission through the provision of transitional and permanent supportive housing in combination with supportive services that create opportunities and promote self-sufficiency.
About This Cause
Anchored by case management, Dignity offers a range of services to tenants - including life skills development, employment and education supports, health and wellness supports, and housing placement assistance (for a successful transition to permanent housing). Additionally, Dignity provides educational activities for children and youth. Upon entering Dignity, case managers assess immediate needs for livable income, food, transportation, childcare, etc. and ensure appropriate action toward meeting these needs. They connect tenants with benefits and work with them to develop short-term goals and action steps with paths to long-term self-sufficiency. For homeless families and individuals, moving into a Dignity unit is often the first time in months that they have a safe place to sleep at night, without the stress of where they will sleep tomorrow. Dignity’s 58 units of housing range from efficiency apartments to three-bedroom houses. Dignity’s Property Management Department cares for the properties by performing ongoing maintenance, repairs and hiring experienced contractors when needed. Dignity staff works closely with all contractors to ensure everyone follows agency protocol and that tenants receive the highest quality service. Every unit has a kitchen with standard appliances, and our Alicia’s House program (for domestic violence survivors) is fully furnished.
