Mission Statement
Awbury Arboretum is a free public garden and farm serving Northwest Philadelphia. Building on the social justice values of our Quaker founders, we make a positive environmental impact, educate children and adults, and nurture an inclusive community. Our Vision: We serve as an accessible green space that welcomes the pursuit of learning, recreation, and peace. As a beacon of historical and environmental stewardship, these grounds shelter and protect both social and biological diversity. We envision Awbury as a vital part of a greener, healthier Philadelphia that encourages an ever-deepening integration of city life and the natural world.
About This Cause
Founded in 1916, Awbury Arboretum carries out the mission and vision of its founders by offering free admission 365 days a year to walk our trails, enjoy our lawns and benches, visit our Historic House and gardens, and enjoy all the benefits of being among trees. We present educational opportunities for both children and adults that encourage a deep sense of connection between people and nature. Awbury serves as an active community learning center and context for promoting place-based eco-consciousness. Our grounds function as public space for civic, social and creative engagement in the midst of a densely populated, hardscaped metropolitan area.
