Mission Statement

Village Enterprise's mission is to equip people living in extreme poverty with the resources to create sustainable businesses. Our vision is a world free of extreme poverty and chronic hunger where people have the means to sustain their families.

About This Cause

Currently operating in Kenya and Uganda, our program builds successful, long-lasting, small businesses. We provide a complete package of support that includes business, conservation, and financial education training, on-going mentoring, seed capital grants (not loans) and business savings groups. Outcomes include better nutrition, improved health, increased education for children, higher-quality housing, individual empowerment, and a sense of hope now and in the future. Village Enterprise employs a unique rural service delivery model, which distinguishes it from other organizations in this field. Village Enterprise works through a network of Business Mentors, local leaders, who live and work in the rural communities we serve. Recruited, trained, and managed by local staff, Village Enterprise capitalizes on Business Mentors by cost-effectively targeting the poorest of the poor in the rural villages and providing locally-appropriate training and mentoring services that improve the success and sustainability of microenterprises. Since our inception in 1987 Village Enterprise has started over 30,000 businesses, trained over 128,000 business owners and impacted the lives of over 660,000 women, men and children. 75% of our businesses are still in operation after 4 years.
