Mission Statement

Welcome to the home page of the Illinois Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. We are the local state chapter that tries to offer hope, education and support to the families of Illinois that suffer with Huntington’s disease. It is our mission to help improve the lives of people with Huntington’s disease and their families.

About This Cause

We also provide information and help to the medical professionals who treat our families. In support of this mission, we host the annual state convention that brings the professionals in the field to our families. We coordinate advocacy efforts within the state and support national legislation which will benefit individuals suffering from Huntington’s disease. Chicago is home to one of 21 Centers of Excellence at Rush Medical Center. Our Centers of Excellence offer HD families the complete package of care through our neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, a geneticist, and a social worker to help families cope with this devastating disease. In order to accomplish our mission, we hold several fund raisers throughout the year and invite all our families to take part in them. We offer in-service educational classes for nursing homes. We maintain a help-line phone for our families through our Chapter social worker. We provide educational material from our National organization. We advocate for our families through a letter writing campaign to our state and national legislators. We support the many clinical trials that take place at our Center of Excellence.
