Mission Statement
The mission of CBMM is “To Improve the Quality of the Black Community by Reaffirming the Vitality of the Black Male”.
About This Cause
In April 1989, a group of 10 Black men from different backgrounds and professional disciplines met to discuss quality of life issues for African Americans. From this meeting evolved Concerned Black Men of Massachusetts, a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with articles of incorporation dating back to June 1989. The Concerned Black Men of Massachusetts, Inc. (CBMM) is an established non-profit, tax-exempt, organization comprised of a partnership of men from many different disciplines throughout Massachusetts. Working in spirited cooperation with Black women, CBMM is dedicated to asserting the Black male's importance to the perpetuation of family and general cohesiveness through education, social and cultural principles, and economic interdependence. CBMM is dedicated to "caring for our youth" and members are dedicated to improving the quality of life for families in Massachusetts by reaffirming the viability of the Black male. For over 30 years the CBMM has sponsored the development, operation, and execution of the Paul Robeson Institute for Positive Self-Development (PRI). PRI provides a stable and consistent environment in which boys can count on interacting with Black male volunteers who provide a dependable counter to the Black male role models that often intermittently slide in and out of their lives. PRI students come to depend on the fact that every Saturday they will be mentored by compassionate, loving Black men who model how a successful fulfilling life can be built on being well behaved, respectful, playing by the rules and being intellectually curious.
