About This Cause
History Founded in 1994, by 16 of the state’s leading 501(c)3 non-profit environmental organizations to raise funds to support environmental programs for the benefit of the people of NJ, the organization was known as the Environmental Fund for New Jersey (EFNJ). In 2000, EFNJ became an affiliate member of Earth Share, a nationwide federation, and changed its name to Earth Share of New Jersey (ESNJ). Now known as EarthShare New Jersey, the organization is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit with its own governing board. Over the past thirty years, ESNJ has dramatically increased its fundraising capacity. A growing number of New Jerseyans have taken advantage of the convenience of ESNJ’s workplace giving programs and contributed more than $7.8 million to protect the state’s land, water, air and wildlife. Programs and Services EarthShare New Jersey services three different populations: non-profits, businesses and individuals. Non-profits EarthShare New Jersey partners are environmental non-profits from across New Jersey and around the country. We provide them with: • Unrestricted funding for programs and missions • Accounting services and donor information for workplace giving contributions • Access to employers throughout NJ and the country • Opportunities to promote their programs and services • Volunteers to help execute their missions • Networking opportunities with other environmental non-profits • Leadership development programs for public speaking, business development and more. Businesses We work with government, public and private employers all over New Jersey and the country with as few as 2 employees and some with more than 100,000. They partner with EarthShare New Jersey (and the EarthShare network) because we provide one point of contact for hundreds of leading environmental organizations. This saves them time and resources when they are interested in making an environmental connection. As we carefully review our members annually, they are assured of the quality our members represent. We frequently customize programs and services for employers to meet their objectives and mission. Partnering on issues related to Corporate Social Responsibility has become a key component of many relationships. Some of the programs we offer include: • Volunteer Opportunities Connects employees with hands-on volunteer projects, such as beach clean-ups, trail maintenance and community gardening; • Educational Presentations & Tools Provides expert speakers for employee forums, as well as green lifestyle tips and other content from trusted environmental charities. Some use ESNJ as a resource to help improve the environment in their workplace as well; • Workplace Charity Campaigns Expands employees’ philanthropic choice, while providing a simple, convenient way to support conservation and healthy communities – locally, nationally and internationally. We also offer an inexpensive online pledging system that allows you to easily and securely administer your workplace charity campaign; • Green Team Support Networking Offers green team and sustainability leaders a private forum to meet with their colleagues, share best practices, and discuss issues affecting workplaces. This is a program we are looking to introduce in NJ during the next fiscal year; • Local Events Highlights current issues affecting the health of the planet and allows individuals to connect with environmental charities. Individuals Connecting individuals with the environment is the cornerstone of what we do. Whether connecting with people in the workplace, at a special event, or community fairs, EarthShare New Jersey brings them the opportunity to learn more about their community, make a difference where they live, work or play, and change the environmental outlook for the future.
