Mission Statement
The Alcove- Transforming Grief and Loss to Hope and Healing
About This Cause
Helping children and their families' cope with the devastating loss or impending loss of a loved one is the goal of The Alcove Center for Grieving Children and Families. The Alcove provides peer support groups to children ages 3-18 and to their adult family members. For many young people, the overwhelming grief that accompanies the loss or impending loss of a significant person can affect their lives in many ways. Unresolved grief puts children at high risk and can interfere with school achievement, cause depression and behavior problems, leading to alcohol and drug abuse. The Alcove helps children explore the feelings that accompany a loss or impending loss with the express purpose of helping youngsters become productive adults. At the Alcove children learn coping skills that can be utilized throughout their lives. The coping skills learned today promotes healthy adults. The goals of The Alcove are achieved through the following: Children & Family Night of Service Children and Family Nights are on-going sessions that meet every other week from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
