Mission Statement

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.

About This Cause

Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfortfiled a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. In 2022, SoCo Rescue relocated to Tarrytown (Soperton) Ga, just 25 minutes from Glenwood, and continues to assist in helping as many of the countless number of dogs in need not only in the Wheeler Co area, but also in Montgomery Co, where they now reside, and a number of surrounding counties. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes. Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.
