Mission Statement

The Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad (BHVRS) was established in 1942. 73 years later, we are still proud to serve the citizens of Berkeley Heights and the surrounding towns. In 2014, the BHVRS responded to 840 calls, ranging from the flu to heart attacks to multi-vehicle car crashes on Route 78. The BHVRS is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by volunteers who live and work in the township. On every shift there are two members who hold a valid New Jersey EMT Certification, which requires a class of 180 hours to obtain. Whether you call the Rescue Squad for an adult or child, illness or injury, you can be sure that you are getting at least two experienced medical professionals to take care of you or your loved ones.

About This Cause

The objectives of the BHVRS are: ◾To provide ambulance and emergency medical services to all residents of Berkeley Heights, and to any person requiring such emergency services within the Township of Berkeley Heights. ◾To respond to calls for ambulance assistance in neighboring communities, or when requested by the NJ State Police or the EMS Council of New Jersey. ◾To aid and assist the EMS Council of New Jersey in furthering its work within the state. To achieve our objectives, the BHVRS works closely with the Berkeley Heights Police Department, the Berkeley Heights Fire Department, and rescue squads from surrounding towns. The BHVRS provides mutual aid to New Providence and to Long Hill Township on a regular basis and to other surrounding towns when needed.
