About This Cause
St. Andrew the Apostle Parish is a vibrant faith community. Founded in 1916, our parish has been ministering to the needs of the community of Drexel Hill PA for one hundred years. Drexel Hill is a radically different place because of the presence of this church and school. Centennial Capital Campaign A Parish Center and Gymnasium A Parish Center provides a central location on our campus for the church family to gather; a place where families, friends, groups, organizations, as well as visitors and newcomers may be welcomed. Current limitations and inadequate meeting space stifles our programs and athletic endeavors, putting parishioners in the awkward position of having to compete for the current limited number of meeting rooms or renting community facilities /gymnasiums. A Parish Center will include a regulation-size basketball gymnasium, too. Presently, our Saint Andrew School children and youth have to go elsewhere for games, competition, and many fellowship activities. Having a Parish Center and a regulation-size gym will enable them to stay home in our parish. Further, it will enhance our growing school by bringing children and families into our church and school. It will also offer opportunities for teens and young adults to remain engaged in the parish through sport programs and other activities that require such facilities. Adding a third floor to the Fr. John Hughes Building gives our church family a designated multi-purpose space for large gatherings, equipped with modern, handicap accessible restrooms and storage. A Parish Center makes both our church and our school more attractive to young families. Our school is here to stay and, with our church, it will play an important role in the next century of ministry just as it has in the first. We must invest, therefore, in its growth and in its future. Saint Andrew School’s enrollment has been growing steadily over the last several years. All indications project this growth will continue, which is yet another reason why more facilities are needed. If we prepare for the school’s growth now, our school will be stronger tomorrow. Most importantly, however, a Parish Center enables our church and our school to remain vibrant in the next century. Attracting young families and adults is critical for a parish to thrive and more effectively use our gifts and talents in service to the community and our world. The total cost for the needs outlined above is approximately $4.5 million.
